Food sales figures show need to scrap SNP retail levy

15 Aug 2012

A report released today has revealed food sales growth in Scotland has slowed to its slowest in 14 years.

The Scottish Retail Consortium said all sales were down 0.7 per cent from last year.

Scottish Conservative finance spokesman Gavin Brown MSP said:

“These figures are disappointing and illustrate once again the challenge that the sector is facing.

“The Scottish Government should be doing everything in its power to help give the industry a boost.

“It is now time to scrap the Scotland-only retail levy, which is anti-competitive and places a burden on the sector when it can least afford it.”
