SNP must do more to halt slowdown in export sales

4 Jul 2012

The Scottish Government has today announced the latest export figures, which reveal there has been a slowdown in export sales.

The SNP has set a target for Scottish businesses to deliver a fifty per cent increase in the value of international exports by 2017.

Commenting on the figures, Scottish Conservative Alex Johnstone, MSP for North East Scotland, said:

“These figures show a worrying slowdown in the growth of Scottish exports and the SNP must take every necessary measure to ensure this decline is halted.

“If the Scottish Government is to ever achieve their target of a 50% increase in exports they must get serious about achieving this.

“The Scottish Conservatives have repeatedly pushed the Export Support Initiative to allow more of our local firms to sell their goods abroad.

“However, this has to be given proper financial support by the SNP to help make the significant impact needed to reach that target.”
