Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson has today paid tribute to the Queen’s enormous contribution to the nation as the Monarch arrives in Scotland for a series of events to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee.
The Queen traditionally spends a week in Scotland every summer, but this year the visit takes on significance as she celebrates her 60 years on the throne.
Events begin today with the traditional ceremony of the keys at Holyrood.
Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson MSP said:
“I love the Queen and for the past 60 years she has been a constant and an exemplar of duty and service for the United Kingdom.
“We are lucky to have had her as our representative through the last 60 years, always with Phillip at her side.
“Like the more than four million Scots who were born after 1952 – I can’t remember a time when she wasn’t head of our country.
“This week’s visit is a fantastic opportunity for people right across the country to pay tribute to the Queen’s enormous contribution to civic life in Scotland.
“But we have to remember that she’s not just our Queen, but leader of the Commonwealth too and we could not have had a finer representative in the world.
“The Queen has given us wisdom, compassion, justice and integrity in an ever-changing world and I, along with millions of Scots, would like to express my gratitude for her immense dedication since taking the throne as a young woman six decades ago.”
