SNP’s police plans deeply flawed

27 Jun 2012

The Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Bill has passed in the Scottish Parliament.

Scottish Conservatives abstained in the vote.

Scottish Conservative Leader, Ruth Davidson MSP, said:

“The Scottish Conservatives support reform of policing, but have always insisted that a Scottish Police Force must demonstrate local accountability and value for money.

“We have worked hard at every stage of this bill to seek improvements in these areas and are deeply disappointed with the SNP Government’s response.

“The SNP’s plans are deeply flawed and ministers’ high-handed refusal to act on legitimate concerns expressed from all sides of the chamber gives us no confidence in their willingness to ensure suitable accountability of the new structure.”
