Audit Scotland has published a report on the challenges facing local government funding and service provision. The ‘Local Government Overview’ report states that funding pressures will continue for public service areas such as social work and housing.

Scottish Conservative Local Government spokesperson, Margaret Mitchell MSP said:

“This is a fair report which shows the need for a change in culture over local authority governance. As the financial squeeze on local authorities continues it is more important than ever that we protect vital public services.

“However, with efficiency savings being stretched to their maximum this is proving ever more difficult, and there is a need for alternative solutions to be found.

“Local authorities need to work together rather than in isolation to ensure the best public service provision possible, and to ensure the best value for every pound of taxpayers’ money.”
